Who is Molly Danger?
Molly Danger is the story of the
world’s most powerful 10 year old girl. A Seemingly immortal superstrong hero,
Molly has protected Coopersville, New York for the last 20 years.
Kept in constant isolation and watched
closely by D.A.R.T. (The Danger Action Response Team) An organization created
to assist in her heroic deeds and monitor her movements, Molly battles the
Supermechs. A team of cybernetically enhanced beings with unusal powers, Molly
always defeats them and yet they always managed to mysteriously escape. Molly
longs for a real life, with a real family, something she’s been told she can
never have. Her life changes when D.A.R.T. recruits a new pilot, Austin Briggs.
Briggs has his own motivations for joining the team, Newly remarried, Austin is
having trouble forming a relationship with his new stepson, Brian. Austin wants
to use his connections to impress Brian, an avid Molly Danger fan. However
things get turned on it’s ear when Molly and Brian form a friendship of their
own.
She believes she’s an alien, whose
family died when their ship crash-landed on Earth and before the atmosphere
could fully alter them. She also believes that she’s alone, the last of her
kind.
Everything she knows is wrong.
The Origin of Molly Danger
Molly was conceived originally on a car
ride with my friend, Rich Maurizio back in 2001. At the time we originally were
trying to pitch Molly as an animated series but later decided to re-envision
the project as a comic book series. We began production 2002, with the
intention of self publishing through Rich’s company Airwave Comics. As my career
picked up it became harder for me to take the time to draw the book. We then
hired another artist (Sonic the Hedgehog
Artist Jamal Peppers) to redraw the script I had written at the time.
Eventually the project fell apart due to time commitments. I never abandoned
the concept and would continue to revisit the possibility over the next three
years. In the mean time, life changes. I signed a six-year exclusive contract
with DC Comics . I got married and had a daughter; I became a teacher and a
lecturer, traveling around the world to conventions and conferences. In all
that time, I never abandoned my girl. In
2008 I became the artist of the comic book series, Supergirl and
something became very clear to me. Whenever I would talk to fans, two things
kept coming up. One was the lack of all ages’ material in the U.S. Comics
market. The second was the lack of female heroes who weren’t an offshoot of a
male hero or weren’t sexually exploitive. That’s when the seed really began to
take root again and why I’m now attempting this massive undertaking. This is
the first creator owned project I’ve done since I co-created the miniseries,
Venture with Noble Causes and Dynamo writer/ creator Jay Faerber in 2003. This
is a story that I feel needs to be told.
This blog is the home of Molly Danger. As we move forward with our plans, starting with our Kickstarter campaign in August, I'll be posting behind the scenes art and more.
